Marianne Wesson -- "A Death at Crooked Creek"

Marianne Wesson will speak about and sign her new book, A Death at Crooked Creek, on Wednesday, August 28th at 7:30pm.About the book:University of Colorado professor Marianne Wesson employs her expertise to great effect in A Death at Crooked Creek, a study of a crime that left its mark on the American legal system. The 1879 murder of John Hillmon gained notoriety when his life insurance providers, suspicious of fraud, refused to pay his widow. The result: six trials and a Supreme Court ruling that led to a new exception to the hearsay rule, a “durable and influential” precedent embroiled in controversy. Wesson’s efforts result in a true crime drama that’s well researched, easy to read, and oddly compelling.Vouchers to attend this event are $5 and are good for $5 off the author's featured book or on a purchase on the day of the event. Vouchers may be purchased in advance, over the phone, or at the door. Readers Guild Members can reserve seats at any in-store event.
